An eight-year veteran of Music Theatre Camp (MTC) and 2020 student of the New Zealand School of Dance, Amy Gallery is excited to take part in Brand New Day this January, her final MTC.
Amy didn’t know a anybody when she did her first MTC back in 2013. 8 years later, she counts many of her fellow performers among her best friends. Pelican Productions is a bit like that – the sense of family and community is palpable and the two weeks of MTC and one week ‘Spotlight’ have been the start of countless beautiful friendships.

Amy says MTC is truly an experience like no other. “It is all of the essential skills you learn along the way that equip you for a career in the performance industry and the appreciation and knowledge you develop for every aspect of a theatre production including all of the behind the scenes. It is the friendships you create and the connections that you build, and then at the very end of it all you get to step back and say - wow, we did that in two weeks. It’s an amazing feeling”. The opportunity to work with so many different tutors over the course of the camp, some of whom are the best in state and the country is a big drawcard for Amy. The intensity of learning a full-scale production in two weeks is obviously a big challenge. “We are pushed physically, |
mentally and vocally, but that’s all a part of the lessons learned, the skills developed and the appreciation for the incredible industry. It’s an experience that’s hard to find anywhere else” she says.
Her favourite show was 2019’s The Greatest Show. “I got to play the part of Regina in Mean Girls as well as dancing a duet in Tightrope from The Greatest Showman. As contemporary dance is my first love, it was so great that I was given the opportunity to mix my passion for music theatre with contemporary dance in one of my favourite musical movies” Amy says.
Amy’s ultimate dream is to dance professionally. She is looking forward to be joining Sydney Dance Company’s Pre Professional Year in 2021 then returning to the New Zealand School of Dance in 2022.
Amy would like to say a huge thank you to Kylie and Jen (Pelican Productions’ Co-Directors Kylie Green and Jen Frith) for creating this family. “Pelican Productions has been a huge part of my life growing up. Not only has it shaped and directed my career path, but it has taught be so many life lessons and filled my school years with so much fun and opportunities and I will always be grateful for that”.
Amy, we have loved watching you grow into such a beautiful performer and young woman and wish you the very best. We have no doubt you will achieve your dreams!
