Pelican performer Chelsea Lancione took part in her first Music Theatre Camp (MTC) in 2014. She was inspired to get involved because of Pelican’s strong sense of community. “I loved their supportive environment which allowed myself and many others to find a place of belonging. What excites me the most about MTC is not only reuniting with old friends, but also being in a show that is put together in a short time frame that is of a professional standard”, she says.
Brand New Day this coming January will be Chelsea’s sixth and last MTC.

Reflecting over the years, Chelsea’s favourite was her first show. Performing as a Mersister in Disney’s Little Mermaid set was particularly memorable as it was the first time she sang as part of a featured ensemble. Since that show, finding the courage to sing by herself confidently has been her biggest challenge. Performing in shows with people who share the same passion for performing as she does and the reward of being able to put all that hard work and energy |
onto the stage in two weeks has been a particular highlight. “The best performances are those where you have the most fun” she says. “I also love that MTC is a supportive and inclusive environment, where everyone is accepted for who they are”.
Chelsea is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English literature and film studies at the University of Adelaide and intends on performing and being involved in the theatre as a major part of her life in the future.
Chelsea thank you for making MTC such a big part of your performing arts journey – we have loved seeing your confidence grow over the years and can’t wait to see what you will do next.
