PELICAN
PRODUCTIONS - JEN
FRITH AND KYLIE GREEN
Pelican
Productions and Music Theatre Camp SA hit the ground running in
January 2005. What began as a casual chat over coffee has evolved
into an all singing, all dancing showcase of South Australia's
home grown talent. With their dedicated team of
professionally experienced vocal tutors and choreographers,
Pelican Productions provides a truly unique arts experience.
In just two weeks, a group of individuals with varied backgrounds
and experience learn, laugh and rehearse together, sharing their
unique abilities and ideas. The result of this in 2009 was
'A Fish Out of Water'. From an orphan girl to a green witch, everyone wants to find their place in the world. A place where they can be themselves, where passions are shared, dreams realised and magic created. For two weeks every year, Pelican Productions is that place.
Stories and music are woven around all kinds of characters trying to fit in, characters who feel like fish out of water – Sophie searching for her dad and her identity in Mamma Mia, The Lion King’s Simba searching for his place in the pride, an adolescent Peter Pan navigating the path to adulthood, little orphan Annie looking for love and Wicked’s Elphaba desperate for
acceptance.
And so 170 young talents joined in a journey that put fish out of water into an ocean of creativity, support and unending achievement. An amazing journey from quiet singular voices and hushed tones to booming choruses that have brought tears to our eyes. It’s hard to believe these performers arrive as individuals from NT, NSW, Victoria, Mt Gambier, the Barossa, the Riverland, Naracoorte, Penola and Adelaide yet come together in this incredible spectacle in a little over 10
days.
It constantly amazes us what can be achieved in such a short space of time, but the energy and enthusiasm of these fantastic young people carry everyone to new heights. Of course none of this would be possible without our wonderful tutors who not only generously pass on their skills and knowledge but share their unique perspective on the world of musical
theatre. We have been humbled not only by the caring environment the camp participants have created this year but also by the generosity and warmth of so many parents who’ve given up their time to help. It’s touching, vital and much
appreciated. We hope you’ve loved your Pelican experience as much as we have and invite all the fish out of water back for more swimming next year.
For
lovers of musicals and the spiritedness of youth. Enjoy the
very best of South Australia's emerging performers.
